Noragami – Kotaro Tamura ~ ☕☕☕☕

Hello folks!

Today’s review concerns an anime that became easily one of my favourite: Noragami.
I will start by saying that talking about Noragami is quite hard and I will try to hold off my “fangirling soul” and to rationalise the situation.

To be clear: it is amazing!! Give it a chance even if this review do not convince you!!

However, the anime consists of two seasons, respectively of 12 and 13 episodes, and of 4 OAV. In terms of genre, I think it can be classified as a fantasy shōnen, but to be honest I think it is a mix of genres.

Well, let’s cut to the chase: what is Noragami about?

Chilling adventures of Sabrina – Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ~ ☕

The title has warned me.
But I have not understood that “chilling” meant “horrid” and not “scaring”.

Well, yes, through today’s review I am going to explain why the reboot of the amazing “Sabrina, the teenage witch” is making me reconsider Élite, that, despite the big problems about thematics, at least has a story that entertains, that convinces you – more or less – to watch the next episode, a story that does not bore you.

“Chilling adventures of Sabrina” is a TV show, just released by Netflix, that is supposed to be the horror reboot of the adventures of our beloved little witch.
It consists of just 10 episodes, but, I tell you right now, I did not succeed watching the last three.
I could have, true, but, ending the seventh episode, I just thought I did not want to waste other 3 hours of my life this way.
Yes, three hours, you read right. Because one of the biggest defect is the length of the episodes.

One hour per episode is too much for a show of this kind.
To be honest, shows that can afford episodes of this duration are very few, and they are show such as Peaky Blinders, not this one.

Le terrificanti avventure di Sabrina – Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ~ ☕

Il titolo mi aveva avvertito.
Ma io non avevo capito che quel “terrificanti” fosse per dire “orribili” e non “paurose”.

Ebbene sì, nella recensione di oggi vi spiegherò perché il reboot del magnifico “Sabrina, vita da strega” mi sta facendo rivalutare Élite, che, nonostante i grandi problemi di tematiche, aveva per lo meno una storia che intratteneva, che ti spingeva – più o meno – a proseguire, una storia che non annoiava.

“Le terrificanti avventure di Sabrina” è una serie TV appena rilasciata da Netflix che si presenta come il reboot horror delle avventure della nostra amata streghetta.
Consta di soli 10 episodi, ma, ve lo dico fin da ora, non sono riuscita a superare i 7.
Avrei potuto vedere gli ultimi tre, vero, ma finito il settimo episodio ho semplicemente pensato che non volevo buttare altre 3 ore della mia vita così.
Sì, tre ore, avete letto bene. Perché una delle grandissime pecche è la lunghezza degli episodi.

Un’ora ad episodio è troppo per una serie del genere.
Ad esser sincera, sono pochissime le serie che possono permettersi episodi di tale durata, e sono serie del livello di Peaky Blinders, non di questa.

Shadowhunters – Ed Decter ~ ☕

La recensione di oggi è su Shadowhunters, non la saga letteraria bensì la serie TV.

Ebbene, ragazzi, non ho mai visto una serie così brutta ed è bellissimo!

Sono così contenta di vederla!

Ok, no, non sono impazzita e dico “grazie al cielo non ce ne sono di così brutte”, però, vedete, sono quaranta minuti di risate assicurate.

Ne parlavo col mio caro amico Whitman – che la pensa come me – e siamo arrivati alla conclusione che neanche mettendo assieme tutte le serie della DC (che io amo, ma, riconosciamolo, sono trash) si raggiunge tale livello di trash.

Ok, ok, volete sapere prima di cosa parla, lo capisco.

Lucifer – Mike Carey – PILOT ~ ☕☕☕

 Ho finalmente iniziato una serie che da tempo mi incuriosiva.

Faccio parte di un gruppo facebook (Serializzati) in cui persone che hanno la mia stessa malattia (dipendenza da serie TV) si sfogano, parlano, condividono notizie e così via e in tantissimi erano entusiasti di questo Lucifer.

Ebbene, ho visto il pilot e… E altri otto episodi.

Gem trilogy – Kerstin Gier (Book) ~ ☕☕☕☕☕

As I promised a lot of time ago, here it is my own review of the Gem trilogy (or Ruby Red trilogy) by Kerstin Gier. The trilogy is formed by the volumes Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue and Emerald Green (the original titles are Rubinrot, Saphirblau and Smaragdgrün). I got to know this trilogy by chance, thanks to a simple Facebook post. Reading the positive comments about it, I took the chance and borrowed the first volume from my library. And that was, actually, a great choice.

Gwyneth (her name is, actually, Gwendolyn, but I don’t know why in the English  version she became Gwyneth) Shepherd’s family is strange. Well, anyone could say his family is strange (we all have weirdo relatives), but can your relatives, thanks to a particular gene, travel through time? I don’t think so.

Indeed, Gwyneth’s family actually can: a few members (actually, a few women) of her family inherit the gene through generations. The date of birth of each owner of the gene has been calculated, centuries before, by the greatest scientists and mathematicians.

So Charlotte, Gwyneth’s cousin, whose date of birth coincides with the one which has been calculated, is supposed to own that gene: the effects are shown after her owner’s sixteen birthday, and everyone is waiting for her “jumping” in another year.

She has been  trained in facing different situations and how to move in every years: she is the one who was taught fencing, playing the violin, dancing the minuet, leading a conversation. Everyone suppose that all those years spent in training are giving their fruits. But, unfortunately for them, the girl who suddenly “jumps” in another year is not Charlotte, but Gwyneth!

Rubinrot – Felix Fuchssteiner (2013) ~ ☕☕

Eccomi tornato alla sezione film, dopo un bel po’ di tempo, e riprendo il via con la recensione del film tratto dal primo volume della Trilogia delle Gemme, di Kerstin Gier.

Premetto che questo film non è mai uscito nei cinema italiani, sebbene abbiano finalmente provveduto al doppiaggio.

Se avete letto il libro e volete vedere il film, però, vi avverto: arrivati fino in fondo potreste cambiare idea, anche se io lo vedrei comunque (non lasciatevi convincere del tutto dall’opinione di un singolo).

Eccomi di ritorno, come promesso, con una recensione che da lungo tempo aspettava di vedere la luce. Alla fine, ce l’ho fatta.

La Trilogia delle Gemme di Kerstin Gier è composta dai volumi Red, Blue e Green (in lingua originale: Rubinrot, Saphirblau e Smaragdgrün). Sono giunta a conoscenza di questa serie per puro caso, grazie ad un anonimo e semplice post su Facebook. Visti i commenti più che positivi, come sempre, ho preso il primo volume nella mia cara vecchia biblioteca non appena ne ho avuto l’occasione. E devo dire, mettendo a parte la modestia, che ho proprio fatto la scelta giusta! È davvero un peccato che questa bravissima autrice tedesca sia così poco conosciuta in Italia.

Molte persone al mondo sostengono di avere una famiglia «strana». Ma nessuna famiglia è strana quanto quella di Gwendolyn Shepherd, che da secoli tramanda, di generazione in generazione, un talento particolare… la capacità di viaggiare nel tempo!

Dream a little dream – Kerstin Gier (book) ~ ☕☕☕☕

Well, starting from the fact that I loved this German author from the first single page of the first volume of the Gem Trilogy (sooner or later the review of this beautiful saga will be online), as I found out the new trilogy Silver: The Book of Dreams I just had to read it. Well yes, I actually am a urban fantasy lover.

For the ones who don’t know: the difference between fantasy and urban fantasy is that a fantasy novel is one like The Lord of the Rings, while a urban fantasy one is far more different. Urban fantasy novels are usually set in contemporary times in cities (usually big cities like New York or London… or Nantucket), so don’t expect to find medieval castles and armies of brave knights fighting on the backs of huge dragons, but rather creatures like angels, demons, vampires, warlocks and werewolves, and to cap it all teenagers (usually unaware of all this creatures) who inevitably end up in trouble.

When you go to the bookshop, you always find the same old stories: the same, old impossible love between two guys who shouldn’t be together, or between a human and a supernatural creature… the same, old, boring story.

Well, I assure you that Gier’s novels are absolutely different. I’ll show you… let’s start from Dream a little dream.

Silver – Kerstin Gier ~ ☕☕☕☕

Allora, partendo dal presupposto che ho adorato questa autrice tedesca a partire dalla prima singola pagina del primo volume della Trilogia delle gemme, di cui presto farò una recensione, sapendo della nuova Trilogia dei sogni non potevo assolutamente perdermelo. Ebbene sì, la vostra Pennac è una super fan dell’urban fantasy.

Tanto per cominciare, per chi non fosse informato: la differenza tra fantasy e urban fantasy. Il fantasy è, per esempio, il Signore degli Anelli; l’urban fantasy è di solito ambientato in tempi contemporanei nelle città, quindi non aspettatevi castelli medioevali e eserciti di coraggiosi cavalieri in armatura che si scontrano a dorso di draghi, ma piuttosto creature come angeli, demoni, vampiri, stregoni e lupi mannari, e a coronare il tutto adolescenti ignari dell’esistenza di tutto ciò, finché qualcuno di loro non ci si trova dentro fino al collo.
