Peaky Blinders – Steven Knight ~ ☕☕☕☕☕

Today review is about one of my favorite shows: Peaky Blinders.
It is a BBC TV series, available on Netflix, and it consists of three seasons (each one of only six episodes) and it has already been renewed for a fourth (which should be released during this autumn) and a fifth!

One last thing before I start.
Precisely because it is one of my favorite, I might be a little confusing, therefore I just want to apologize in advance.

So, let’s talk about it.

The story is inspired by the real Peaky Blinders, a criminal gang based in Birmingham during the late 19^th century and the beginning of the 20^th.

So, everything starts in Birmingham in 1919, where everybody fights against poverty in order to survive somehow.

In Small Heat, we meet Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) who, just returned from World War I with his brothers Arthur (Paul Anderson) and John (Joe Cole), has become the Peaky Blinders’ boss and has to run his family business – mainly, clandestine gambling -.
But soon, when the ruthless policeman Campbell (Sam Neill) and the mysterious Grace (Annabelle Wallis) come to town, Tommy’s leadership is harshly tested.

Well, what makes this show amazing?

Maybe is the way they show us Shelby’s world, with all their alliances, all their criminal activities, all their fights for legality (they actually want to become legal), all their compromises, all their contradictions, all their rules, all their… everything?
Maybe is that everything is just so realistic?
Maybe is the fact they created perfect characters, plenty of different facets, extremely believable, played by amazing actors?
Maybe is how every single character evolve?
Maybe is how much the story captures you and keeps you glued to the screen?
Maybe is the fact that every single season final is so original and surprising?
Maybe is just the technical perfection of this show?
Maybe is the unbelievable, amazing photography that makes you watch everything in a different light?
Maybe is how perfect the music is? (I know, I used the word “perfect” a little too much, but this show is perfect!)

Well, yes, it is all this and plenty more.
This is not “just” a TV show, it is a journey that will leave something inside you and will make you look at things in a different way.

Go to watch it! It is more worth seeing than you could ever imagine.
